  • Evolution Factiod

    ???
    One outcome of "evolution" . . .

Of all the organisms on this planet, Man has the greatest capacity of all of them to make a mess of things!

    ???

And an interesting quote attributed to Al Gore - "Nothing repeats itself except human folly."

  • The Kingdom of God, Job

Well, it has been two months since I last posted on this topic.  I finished Job and am well into the Psalms now.

Here are my findings in Job:

First mention, chapter 12:18, "He loosens the bonds of kings, . . ."  Note it is plural.  It is in reference to earthly kings.

Next is a simile in chapter 15:24.   Note the use of "like" here, equating the impact of distress and anguish to that of a king ready for the attack.

As a side note, I offer this classic example of faith in what is not seen based on all that has been seen, from chapter 19:25-27, "I know that my redeemer lives, and at the last He will take His stand on the earth.  Even after my skin is destroyed , yet from my flesh I will see God; whom I myself shall behold, and whom my eyes shall see and not another."

And the foundation for it all?  Chapter 28:20 + 28, "Where does wisdom come from?  And where is the placeof understanding? . . .  'Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.'"

Chapter 29:25, Job refers to himself as a king in proclaiming his place and stature formerly and before God.

Chapter 36:7 is a reference to God's authority over kings, plural again.

The final use of "king" in Job is found in chapter 41:34, a reference to God as ruler over all mankind.

So, as predicted, we find only one reference to God as king and no mention of the Kingdom of God in all of the first writings of the bible.

I think we can draw some implications from these findings but we need to finish our study before finalizing our conclusions.

  • Statistical Probably of Truth

Pastor Robert Prentice (PB or Pastor Bob to his friends) this AM at CCBC:

The numerical chances of all the prophecies concerning Christ's first advent, and that advent alone, not to mention all of the rest of fulfilled prophecies; are so extraodinary that they go beyond any chance or uncertainty at all.  They point to the accuracy, surety, and certainty of the Scriptures, and to the supernatural power and design of God to bring them about.

With that certainty in mind, we can be sure beyond any degree that what God has promised for the future, He will bring about just as accurately and surely.  "Thus, you are to know that God is the Lord!""

If you add up all the prophecies regarding Christ, 350+ in all, the statistical analysis would place it in the absolute truth category.  Only a dozen or two would be needed to make it a statistical certainty.  And that does not even take into account all the miracles He performed which attest to His divinty.

To repeat the question: "Are you willing to accept the truth regardless of the consequences/impacts it may have on your life?"  The facts support the truth of Christ's claims and the reality of the Scriptures being true.  How will your heart respond?  Or will your pride get in the way of the admission of your being falable and in need?  Have done so, I can tell you it is worth it.  There is nothing wrong with admitting you need help and asking for it.

I John 5:13 - "that you may know that you have eternal life."

  • "Nothing but the Facts" - Healthy Skepticism II

    Facts are facts.

Nothing but the facts can be helpful, but also misleading.  One's judgment needs to be applied.  Facts can assist one's search for truth and can support that which is true.  But they do not determine what is truth.

The most profound truths stand on their own.  They do not need to be proven.  The real question is how willing are you to accept the truth for what it is?

I have a healthy skepticism for unproven claims, but I do not reject outright that which has proven itself to be true.  That is what I define as having an open mind - the willingness to consider all possibilities until the truth is revealed.  Everyone should keep in mind at all times the possiblity of the misuse or misinterpretation of facts so called.  Truth on the other hand is unalterable.  It can be ignored or rejected.  But it is not relative to where it can be altered.  It is not a matter of interpretation or opinion.

So, how do you determine what is true?

         > History can be revised.

         > Science can be fudged and is subject to bias.

         > Facts can be twisted, misrepesented.

So, can truth even be determined?  Absolutely.  Truth is absolute.  It can be determined.  Reality does not change, only our perspective on it does.

    * Truth - All of humanity is imperfect, fallible.

    * Truth - All that is came from somewhere.

    * Truth - Organization and logic are signs of intelligence and the input of energy.

    * Truth - Not all truth can be appraised with instruments or the five senses alone.

    * Truth - Someone will disagree with one or more of these statements!  :)
