"Nothing but the Facts" - Healthy Skepticism II
Facts are facts.
Nothing but the facts can be helpful, but also misleading. One's judgment needs to be applied. Facts can assist one's search for truth and can support that which is true. But they do not determine what is truth.
The most profound truths stand on their own. They do not need to be proven. The real question is how willing are you to accept the truth for what it is?
I have a healthy skepticism for unproven claims, but I do not reject outright that which has proven itself to be true. That is what I define as having an open mind - the willingness to consider all possibilities until the truth is revealed. Everyone should keep in mind at all times the possiblity of the misuse or misinterpretation of facts so called. Truth on the other hand is unalterable. It can be ignored or rejected. But it is not relative to where it can be altered. It is not a matter of interpretation or opinion.
So, how do you determine what is true?
> History can be revised.
> Science can be fudged and is subject to bias.
> Facts can be twisted, misrepesented.
So, can truth even be determined? Absolutely. Truth is absolute. It can be determined. Reality does not change, only our perspective on it does.
* Truth - All of humanity is imperfect, fallible.
* Truth - All that is came from somewhere.
* Truth - Organization and logic are signs of intelligence and the input of energy.
* Truth - Not all truth can be appraised with instruments or the five senses alone.
* Truth - Someone will disagree with one or more of these statements! :)
